Ram Ball Stem Mount for Garmin 390LM
« on: May 14, 2017, 09:48:12 PM »
I'm think of installing a Ram Ball Stem Mount for my trip to France in a couple of weeks. I currently have it mounted on the LH Fork Clamp with a Ram Mount at the moment but can't get the perfect angle on it  :006:

I also have the Kawasaki Genuine mount (Front of the Tank) but that's useless with a tank bag on as I can't see it. So I'm looking the stem mount as I think this will raise it higher and should be visible with the tank bag on. Can anyone confirm this  :187:

Plus can anyone tell me the size the stem mount should be (the bit that goes in the head stock)

I have the Garmin 390LM

Search Telferizer on here. Other versions of this end up spinning and aren't very secure...

I have one of these fitted which brings it plenty high enough to see plus it gives a bit of adjustability with regards to position. That with the Telferizer should be more than adequate.

Yeh I have the extension Mike that I use with the clutch leaver mount I have already.

I just wanted to confirm the diameter of the Ram Stem for going into the yoke before I buy one from ebay and was fishing to see if anyone had one for sale :028:.

Not sure what the fitting is on the sx yoke. I have a Telferizer mount that I had fitted to a BMW.
It was a round disc with the ball mount and a threaded bar underneath which screwed into a threaded hole in the yolk.
I then added a ram mount extension to mount the sat nav plate.
If it will fit you can have it for the price of a couple of pints!!!
Failing that you could use one of these from Ram mount. Bottom plate on the Oem  mount and sat nav plate on the top one. Easy to add/remove when using/ not using tank bag.

I have had a Telferizer mount on my Fireblade for the last 3 years - it's rock solid stable and a quality item. I definitely recommend Telferizer to everyone (fantastic products and customer service - Bob Telfer is a very decent helpful chap).

Thanks for the replies guy's.

I measured the hole in the headstock and have ordered one of of these. Solid secure fit so shouldn't vibrate or work loose. This way it also means I can adjust the height by using different length clamps.

Ooooops don't order one of these they don't fit.

The headstock has a short nut on top which means this type fitting doesn't fit arrrrrgh  :230:

Back to the drawing board then  :006:

If you are using a headset to hear the satnav, do you need to see it?
I use the Kawasaki mount without issues.

Yes I have it connected by Blue Tooth but I do like to be able to have a visual check. Especially in cities and abroad where it can be confusion to get the right turn and line yourself up in the right lane in traffic.

I've just put it back on the clutch clamp which is OK just not ideal
