Any good for the wifey?
« on: July 27, 2017, 04:52:18 PM »
Hey guys + girls,
Was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with carrying a pillion (mine will be the better half), for touring on the s1000sx?Am very interested in buying this bike however there are no demonstrators in my area. Very annoying. I will look further afield for a demonstrator if this bike is comfortable for pillions. However if you guys say it isnt for 2 up riding i wont waste my time.

I know you can buy better seats. Would be interested to know if these make a difference as well. Any personal feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks all!

I spend at least 50% of my riding with wife as pillion. She loves it and I am very comfortable with it.
The only down side is that like the rifts seat the pillion is not comfortable.
I bought a custom seat from Top Sellerie and it's wonderful, made the experience good, the pegs are a little higher for the pillion than an out and out tourer but perfectly acceptable and my wife has very long legs.
In short, great bike, change the seat

"the only down side is that the Riders seat....."

Thick finger syndrome combined with autocorrect, apologies.

It's fine for pillions. My fiance is more comfortable on my ZX on longer journeys than she used to be on my Superduke:). Depends on how far you're riding I guess. We've done a couple of 200 mile stints ok. Inevitably she got a numb bum in the latter 3rd but then so did I. We use standard seats without issue.

depends on the size/shape of ur pillion  + their expectations
I've taken 3 differing pillions (various shapes & sizes) with no issues
needs a decent test ride to make sure imho

If two up touring and comfort are your mean concerns then it's not the best it's ok and as some say they are happy with it but the sx is more of a sports bike that can be used for touring IMO prob best going for the versys 1000 I would test ride them both  if I was you 👍

I just came back from a 2300mi trip and my wife was not happy with the blisters she got on her bum. She also got a lot of wind blast on motorways. She's 5.6ft and 58kg.

Hi,
If your looking at 17, wife and I both agree seats are great. However bear in mind, my wife is five foot and I am six foot, and it works well. Others I know with same bike and taller wives don't rate it for pillion. We find it great though.
Searching for a work/bike balance
