My SP Engineering cans (baffles never fitted) are not loud. Highly recommend them. See if you can find a local forum member with them fitted and have a listen. I am in Rugby if your ever up my way. Don't forget to use the discount code for %10 off should you buy any.  :490:

Discount code, now you're talking! And excuse my ignorance, but the baffles? Does it simply make the louder and then no longer road legal?

With baffles in I suspect you will not notice much difference. Baffles out gives a pleasing growl without being loud. There is an exhaust gallery thread in the z1000sx general discussion section full of useful advice and experiences. I don't think Mr Plod will be offended by the growling exhaust unless you are riding like a loon (in my opinion that is).
Discount code is ukzedheadz. If that fails then give them a call and ask for another. Nice helpful people at SP.

SP Engineering GP Carbon here too on a 2017. Modifies the stock sound to a tad louder and deeper, very noticeable, most of it when you give a full throttle. Sounds really nice without dragging unwanted attention or disturbing people  :830:

Around 70-80mph (speedway) is pretty much like stock, because all you hear is wind noise hahaha
There is nothing a sunny day and a tank of gas can't fix

Just renewed my policy. The Insurance company tell me I can fit what I want as long as it doesn't increase engine performance by more than 5 percent. Think most brokers will tell you the same.
