Noticeable differences between 2015 & 2017 models?
« on: September 14, 2017, 09:02:56 AM »
Looking to buy myself a Z1000SX. Booked a test ride for last weekend on a 2015 model but that had been sold so they asked if I wanted to go out on the 2017 demonstrator which I did and loved, but not sure my funds can stretch to a new model.

Are there real noticeable difference between the models, and would I end up disappointed on the older one? Got to try and find another local used to test but just wanted to get some idea first. Thanks in advance

IMO unless you want to push it to the point where the new electronics (IMU) cut in to help you, it's mostly down to your money and the aesthetics of the bike...

The recent posts on not being able to change sprocket ratios without screwing up the ECU/IMU programming mean I will definitely not be considering a change/update for a while yet!  :006:

The Slipper Clutch would be the biggest riding difference in my opinion.

Available from 2016, so again the 2017 ie. brand new is not necessary unless you want/need the IMU and prefer the fairing/s

See if you can find a decent priced 2016 model, but make sure of the model not the year of registration. Could see a 2016 registered bike that would be a 2016 production model.

think the only differences are ...higher screen ,more comfortable passenger and rider seat ,improved electronics to help you out if you get caught in a corner and need to brake , wider faring for better weather protection.

ALL of the mentioned updates can be done except the fairing and IMU. I've done them and so have many others and for a fraction of the price of the new bike!

Don't get me wrong, I love the look of the thing and with any new advances in electronics, I always think it's better to have something and not need, than need and not have, but the sprocket thing for me right now is a BIG issue, so I'll definitely be looking forward to reading threads from the pioneers here that find a way around such things  :031:

This is my biggest complaint with my 2014 - the bike is pretty much unridable (is that a word?) at night.   I have better bulbs in the bike, but the reflector sucks.
Does the 2017 turn in any better than the older bikes?
